Mauritius Equity Watch | 20 July 2015: Equity markets start on bullish … SEMDEX 27bps and market cap adds MUR 592 million
Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa):- Mauritius equity markets started the week on a positive momentum. The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) added 0.27 percent or 0.52 points to close at 1,955.84 points and the SEM10 index closed at 373.27 points after increasing by 1.95 points or 0.52 percent.
In the same note, the market capitalization rose by MUR 592 million to close at MUR 217.445 billion (relative to yesterday’s market capitalization of MUR 216.853). The overall total volume trade was registered at 2.042 million (a decrease when compared to 8.617 million recorded yesterday). The total valued traded was settled at MUR 28.070 million (a decrease when compared to MUR 38.288 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SBM Holdings Mauritius had 1.284 million at MUR 1.117 million and POLICY recorded 166,071 traded stocks amounted to MUR 1.146 million. Mauritius Oil & Refineries Limited traded 101,400 stocks at MUR 2.788 million and News Mauritius Hotels ended with a total volume of 69,386 at MUR 1.339 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among 28 traded securities there were 3 price gainers and 8 price losers. The three prices gainers were MCB Group surged by 1.53 percent with a closing price of MUR 215.00, FINCORP ended at MUR 20.50 by adding 0.74 percent and LUX ISLAND RESORTS Limited closed at MUR 0.41 after advancing by 0.41 percent.
Air Mauritius emerged as the top loser to close at MUR 10.50 by losing 5.41 percent. Other price losers were Mauritian Eagle Insurance (tumbled by 1.96 percent to trade at MUR 100.00), OMNICARE Limited (plunged by 1.41 percent to settle at MUR 70.00) and Bluelife Limited (plummeted by 1.34 percent to end at MUR 4.42). In addition, GAMMA CIVIC lost 0.37 to conclude at MUR 27.00 and Mauritius Union Assurance slumped by 0.35 percent to end at MUR 72.00.
The DEMEX index started in green today after adding 0.22 percent or 0.44 points to close at 207.55 points. Likewise, the market capitalization rose by MUR 105 million to close at MUR 49.328 (against MUR 49.223 billion recorded yesterday). The total value traded was MUR 1.509 million exchanged in 37,226 traded securities. SWAN Life Limited added 2.15 percent to trade at MUR 950.00, MEDINE Limited surged by 0.75 percent to close at MUR 67.00 and EUDCOS Limited advanced by 0.72 percent to close MUR 14.00. ENL Limited (P) added 0.34 percent to end at MUR 29.60 but TROPICAL PARADISE Company Limited (O) ended at MUR 6.20 after losing 1.59 percent.
